How to Make Fine (Thin) Natural Hair Look Thicker

If you have thinning hair or naturally fine hair, the desire for thicker natural hair is valid. Sometimes, it can be challenging to get your fine strands to get a fuller and voluminous look. If you are struggling with this, no need to sweat the small stuff, there are techniques you can use to make your fine, thin natural hair look thicker.

NoLyeNapturallyMe has fine natural hair and recommends 4 techniques on how to get more volume for fine natural hair. Keep reading to find out these techniques or watch her tutorial below:

1. Try the scalp massage technique

To get her fine natural hair to appear thicker, NoLyeNapturallyMe use the scalp massage technique. What she does is to place her fingers on the scalp and massage it in small circular motions. It's important to do this in small circular motions and one section at a time so you don't end up with frizz.

2. Pulling the hair out for volume

This technique involves pulling the hair in an upward and outward motion. When you do this, you are releasing some of the clump sections of hair. Here's the thing, your hair clumps naturally and when your strands get stuck together, it becomes weighed down. Pulling them out and releasing those clumps will make your hair appear fuller.

3. Lift your hair from the roots

NoLyeNapturallyMe usually uses this technique to achieve thickness and volume for her twist outs, flat twist outs, braid outs or flexi rod sets. For this, you just use your fingers and lift up the hair from the scalp. You don't have to bring all your fingers out, just lifting an inch off the scalp helps you get a bit of volume.

4. Use the tail end of a fine tooth comb

This is the only technique she uses with a tool. People with fine natural hair tend to have pesky parts. Her technique for getting rid of those pesky parts is to lift the hair with the tail end of a fine tooth comb. Place the tail end of the comb in the midst of the part and move the comb ½ inch in one direction and ½ inch in the other direction. Doing this closes the part and lifts up the hair as well.

5. Go for shorter hairstyles

Pixie cut

Shorter hairstyles are the way to go if you have fine natural hair or thinning hair. Shorter cuts like bobs, side frohawks, and pixie cuts tend to make the hair look fuller. They also give off an edgy appearance and help to disguise thinning hair. Before you decide on a hairstyle, find out which style and cut would suit you perfectly.

6. Add natural clip ins

Clip-ins

If you are looking for a temporary fix, natural clip ins are the easiest way to add volume to fine (thin) natural hair. With clip-ins you can achieve a variety of natural hairstyles with little ease. And if you have thinning hair, clip-ins help to conceal those parts and give you a thicker look. Clip ins are also great if you don't want to wear short hairstyles but prefer some length instead.
